Stoney Education Authority Land Based Learning

We are honoured to be partnering with Stoney Education Authority (S.E.A)!  There are 4 schools located on Îyârhe Nakoda Nation and 2 are located in Mînî Thnî; Nakoda Elementary School and Mînî Thnî Community School.  There are approximately 800 students attending these schools.

Wilderness First Aid Certification

Leaving friends and the community that high school brings can be difficult. Many students struggle with what to do after, and in a rural community it can be hard to find a career path. Many jobs that are more readily available to the graduates of the Stoney Nakoda highschool are those that primarily involve working in an outdoor setting. In order to set the students up for success the Stoney Nakoda Education Authority will be piloting a program this year to put up to 10 students through a 40 hour wilderness first aid course, which will also count as part of their high school credits! The Nick Project is honoured to be funding this new program! If you would like to donate to this cause, click the donate button below!

NES Wild Program

Nakoda Elementary School, located in Mînî Thnî, Alberta, started the Wild program in 2021 - an outdoor and land-based approach to learning with grade 4 students. Now in its second year, students in grades 4 and 5 take their learning outside to the forest classroom. This program allows our students to explore the outdoors through their Îethka culture lens, with lessons and activities they are proud of and can relate to.

The Nick Project is proud to be a supporter for the program. Our fundraising initiatives helped provide proper outdoor clothing for the students participating in NES Wild.

The Nick Project is honored to have such incredible donors! We are excited to announce our first contribution of $9000 for outdoor gear to be purchased for the High School students.

This money will allow the school to purchase full winter gear that many of the students do not have access to. Snow pants, jackets, mittens, toques and boots will allow the high school students to partake in the land-based learning program year round!
